Picture this - you finally received your long-awaited package from Julie does Nails. You open it, excited, and the press-on are here, ready to embellish your hands. But now you are wondering ; how do I apply them, exactly? In this article, we will go through the steps and tips to apply your press-on, and make sure that they will last as long as possible!
- Preparation of the nails
This step is the most important one. The reason behind this is because if you don't prep your nail completely, the surface of the nail will not be in the right state to receive the press-on and the glue that will tie both of them together, which will cause the glue to not adhere properly and for you to loose your press-on very quickly.
- Take a nail file to file the length of your natural nail to your preference. If you are satisfied already with the shape and length of your nails, you can skip this step, but make sure your natural nails are shorter than the press-on!
- Take a cuticle pusher and gently push the cuticle of each of your fingers. Make sure to push enough to clear the nail plate of any cuticle but not too much in order to not hurt yourself.
- Take a nail buffer and gently buff the surface of your nail. Make sure to not miss any part of your nail!
- Finally, take some acetone or alcohol and wipe your nails - this will ensure there is no more natural oil or dust left on your nails.
2. Application of the press-on
Once your nails are prepped, the application of the press-on can be done.
- Start by sorting out the nails to decide which one you will use for each of your fingers. The press-on should cover the entirety of the nails from one side to the other, without any empty space or it overflowing on your skin. If you ordered a custom set, this step can be skipped as the press-ons should be already at the perfect size for your nails!
- Take some nail glue, and apply a small amount on the nail you are going to apply the press-on onto. There is no need to apply a lot of glue! A little goes a long way. Start with a dot and extend the glue to the entirety of the nail.
- Carefully place the press-on onto your nail. Be careful to place it straight, as the glue will take on very quickly and you want to avoid a crooked nail look! Place it on the cuticle first, then press it up to the free edge of the nail, for a perfect, seamless look to the nails.
- Press the press-on onto your nail for around twenty seconds.
- Repeat the same process for each nail, and voila!
You (literally) nailed it!
